Of course you can. We will be delighted to see you for a second opinion. We see many patients who just want another opinion and some - maybe some - reassurance, having seen a cardiologist elsewhere. If you can bring any reports or tests that you've had done already, that will save us from having to repeat them, but we will go through things again with a fresh pair of eyes and hopefully be able to give you that reassurance.

Certain diagnostic tests that we do such as implantable loop recorder or reveal LINQ device, which is there to monitor your heart, can also be implanted in the outpatient setting now, rather than requiring you to have an admission for this procedure.

So current recommendations are that any patient with atrial fibrillation, which has been documented, or felt on a pulse check, should be seen by a specialist. And this involves doing an ECG, getting an echocardiogram to confirm the heart structure is normal. Many GPs are now starting the patients on anticoagulation, but if you've got any concerns or you are worried about your patient, and actually it's good practice for these patients to be seen by a cardiologist.

So normally you'll need an initial consultation where we go through a detailed history, arrange some preliminary tests, and depending on what those tests results show, if we found the cause for your problems, we can either treat it or advise you what to do, or maybe we don't need to do anything and we can discharge you. Sometimes we may need to arrange further tests after your initial tests come back, and that can require an extra consultation. But normally within two or three consultations, we can see you, give you the tests that you need, and hopefully give you answers and treatments for any problem that you have.
